Villages in Action (ViA), the southern Devon community touring scheme run by Creative Kernow, is looking to recruit Creative Connectors for a 6 month placement.
We are currently recruiting young people through the Government’s Kickstart scheme for 16-24 year olds.
Creative Kernow supports the production, promotion and distribution of work by creative practitioners in the South West. The Creative Connectors will be part of the Villages in Action (ViA) team which supports community touring in southern Devon. ViA supports a network of over 30 villages and towns to promote professional touring performances to local audiences. We support communities in Mid, East, South and West Devon, Teignbridge and the South Hams. For the last 3 years Villages in Action has been managed by our partners in Cornwall. These new placements are a part of exciting developments taking place which will support the return of strategic direction of Villages in Action to Devon.
Salary: Living wage
Hours: 25 hours a week
Start date: As soon as possible
The post will support the Touring Producer and Network Lead with a particular focus on the following 3 ViA Projects:
In Bloom. Our In Bloom season will support 12 live and 6 digital performance events across southern Devon over the next 6 months. This varied role will work closely with experienced volunteer promoters to provide ‘on-the-ground’ support, researching new outdoor performance spaces, supporting Covid-safe creative activity in the Devon communities and audience development.
Developing the Action Network. We want to create new ways of engaging more of the communities we work with. You will work alongside the Network Lead to develop new partnerships to support community-led creative activity.
From Devon With Love. You will work with the Touring Producer to deliver the From Devon With Love festival which gives performance opportunities to artists making new live work in Devon.
Please note that we are a flexible organisation and can adapt to serve the right individual for this post.
This is not an exhaustive list of duties and you may be required to carry out other tasks in accordance with the needs of the organisation. You will need to be flexible and adaptable in respect of your role.
Each participant will have access to coaching and mentorship from Managers and Senior Team members across Creative Kernow and Villages in Action. We will provide access to the wider cultural sector to facilitate and encourage networking, and link with other cultural partners supporting Kick Start roles in Devon to form a peer network.
We are offering the above roles as 6 month job placements for young people (age 16-24), 25 hours a week paying National Living Wage, who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment. You do need to be on Universal Credit so if you’re not, click here to find out if you’re eligible.
