Devon villages make their choices for autumn and spring 2016/17
We have had requests for 86 shows this coming autumn and spring. If Roger and Rebecca in the office make the usual jigsaw puzzle work, that could mean as many as 44 events this autumn, only three fewer than last autumn.
Village promoters have been required to take on more risk by booking shows in the current funding climate, so we are really appreciative of this show of commitment to entertaining their villages. It is really pleasing that that our volunteers are seeking sponsorship and other funding sources to host what will shape up to be a packed and varied season for rural Devonians.
Performers who have proven very popular include accomplished duo Cosgrove and Banks, Opera Dudes and Steampunk conjurers, Morgan and West. And the appetite for ViA shows is evenly balanced across the five regions of our county with an average of ten shows requested in South Hams, Teignbridge, East Devon, Mid Devon and West Devon.
We are also hopefully welcoming three new villages onto the scheme for 2016/17: Sticklepath and Liverton in West Devon and Stockleigh Pomeroy in Mid Devon.
Once the ducks are lined up, the season programme will be released at the end of the summer. We hope audiences across the county will come out in droves to reward the resilience of ViA volunteers who are investing in the cultural vitality of their villages.
