Working with Carn to Cove Directors, ViA Network Lead, ViA Development & Fundraising Lead, Community Connectors (Kick Start roles), and volunteer promoters

About Us

The employer for this post is Creative Kernow, Cornwall’s leading creative sector support organisation. Creative Kernow runs a number of projects including the Carn to Cove-rural touring scheme and the FEAST community arts programme as well as Villages in Action, its neighbouring rural touring scheme.

ViA is a charity that has been promoting the arts in southern Devon for over 25 years and offers a ‘menu’ of high-quality arts performances to a network of volunteer promoters who pick from the choice of events for their communities. You will join the team at a key moment as we transition from an ACE-funded project led by CK to a more autonomous organisation. Over a 6-month period (May-Oct) we will be experimenting with new engagement models to further embed creativity within our communities. We are not only concerned with the presentation of performances but involving more of the communities we serve in co-curating these experiences with us. We are interested in the distinctiveness of Devon and the opportunities for community-inspired activity to take ViA forward to the next stage of its development.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Digital & Touring Producer to realise our ambitions for a step change in our digital engagement and output. Digital Village will provide a portal for audiences to access digital content, whether live-streamed performance, digital workshops and training as well as online booking. This platform will serve both Villages in Action and Carn to Cove staff, volunteer promoters, participants and audiences. The Digital & Touring Producer will play a lead role in the development and realisation of the Digital Village including management of digital capture and online platforming of 6 performances as part of our In Bloom season, focused primarily during the summer season.

Additionally, the Producer will work closely with the core team on the development and delivery of the From Devon With Love scratch festival, which will include small-scale ‘scratch’ or work in progress performances across a number of community venues in southern Devon. At this stage we anticipate that the festival will be delivered in a hybrid form, with both in-person and online performances during Autumn 2021.

The role will be vital to the success of the project, and involve working closely with the ViA Network Lead, ViA Development Lead and Community Connectors, forming a new Devon-based team who will work together to ensure Villages in Action’s continuing and future success. The Producer will need to be a competent web builder with a sound understanding of the range of online platforms available to support our digital ambitions. You should have demonstrable experience in the practical implementation of new technologies in the arts. Alongside experience of working closely with artists producing and touring live work of any scale, you will ideally have an interest in working in outdoor and other community locations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage the contracting of artists and a live capture team with support from the Creative Connectors (early career roles), the Action Network Lead and the Directors
  • Ensure clear communication internally and externally, acting as the key liaison point between the project team and artists, capture team and suppliers
  • Manage project related interns and volunteers
  • Attend project and team meetings and site visits as required
