The Neil Maya Quartet – The Brubeck Project
Friday 26th January 2018
Let this superb Devon based quartet, made up of some of the South West’s finest musicians, immerse you in the cool sounds of one of the world’s greatest jazz bands ever to exist, the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Playing such classics as Blue Rondo A la Turk, Unsquare Dance and of course Take Five, the band will take you back to 1959, a golden year for jazz.
In the second half, the band will also play some of its own well-loved compositions and other standards to thrill and excite. Neil Maya on saxophones has played many gigs for Villages in Action and other rural touring schemes and delivers high quality, accessible music for all ages to enjoy – and all with an air of light joviality and frivolity. Matt Carter on piano is a rising star – at just twenty-one, his dexterity and musicality is already truly astounding and he is destined to become a big name on the British jazz scene.
‘Great evening! What a tribute to the Brubeck legacy. This band do some of the best jazz in the South West!’ The Barrel House Ballroom, Totnes
“Just wanted to say a big thank you for such a great evening. So many people came up to us and said how much they had enjoyed it. We have never had such a full house!” Mary Tavy Village Hall 2017
